Standing Ground comes to a close!

16-03-10 8:30am

The trio of "Standing Ground: Toitu Te Whenua" concerts in the square have come to a close, and Access Manawatu OUTSIDE was present at two of them... The following is from Margi Mitcalfe, coordinator of the events...

"With the completion of the final concert (craft and procession) for the Manawatū river on Saturday 13th March, it’s timely to share some gratitude.

The musicians, poets, dancers, performers, speakers, craftsters and helpers have been on a relay of life for the Manawatu river, as they passed the baton of their creativity, their commitment and generosity on through the three Standing Ground Toitū Te Whenua concerts. Thanks to them and to the wonderful participating audiences we have had.

Helping with funds have been Palmerston North City Environmental Trust and Manawatu Forest and Bird. Our thanks to them. To Environment Network Manawatu and to Kiwi Conservation Club, children’s arm of Forest and Bird Manawatu, our thanks for your labours and support. To Access Manawatu OUTSIDE, we are very grateful for the marvelous sound amplification provided; what a great community service for concerts such as ours. Access Manawatu website has photos and the programme of Standing Ground Toitū Te Whenua: MARCH river concert, craft and procession. Check out Environment Network Manawatu website for photos and programmes for January and February’s concert.

And last but not least, to the Manawatu river , te awa o Manawatu : Thanks for keeping on going, flowing from mountain to estuary, while we wake up to better ways of being. Kia kaha!

Gateway Student joining the team!

12-03-10 2:50pm

Some of you may remember Michael Goss or Ariana Buckley, both of whom started here as gateway students a few years ago and ended up helping out here at the station on a regular basis.

Well, St. Peter's College have approached us with another Likely candidate - Richard Gryzb. Richard has a keen interest in radio and music and will be joining us on Wednesdays for most of the year.

We aim to train Richard to use the equipment here at the station, thus preparing him for unit standards at Radio Training School, and also assisting programme makers!

So if you are around on any coming Wednesday, be sure to give him a warm welcome!

Happy New Year

19-01-10 3:44pm

OK, so we're half way to February as I write this, but I know a number of our listeners will only just have returned to work, so the sentiment "Happy New Year" is still considered legitimate for a while.

The New Year is starting well with a number of new groups keen to make radio programmes. You should see some exciting new additions to our schedule in the coming weeks.

We are making more use of Twitter and Facebook to keep in touch with listeners and programme makers, as well as sharing vital information like Outside events and other notices. If you haven't dipped a toe in the "Social Media Pool" we here at Access Manawatu would strongly recommend that you do!

OUTSIDE applications are coming in in a steady stream, however we always welcome more - so apply now! Alternatively, contact the station for more details on what OUTSIDE actually is!

We wish you all the best for 2010!
