NZ Music Month

MAY is NZ MUSIC MONTH, and as the CHAMPIONS OF LOCAL MUSIC, MPR is excited to be teaming up with a number of musicians and organisations to celebrate NZMM! Join us in celebrating the talent and creativity in Manawatū's Music Community!

THIS YEAR'S THEME: "COMMUNITY and COLLABORATION"

"This year’s theme is about working together to build a more connected and collaborative musical landscape across Aotearoa, from songwriting experiments, content co-creation, partnerships to engage and grow audiences, right through to community events.." - NZMusicMonth.co.nz

Kicking off Music Month in style, and - as always - supporting local, MPR and Palmerston North City Library bring you a series of tiny sessions at the Library Mezzanine on Wednesday 3rd and Friday 5th of May. As well as performing original music, they are also asked to share their experiences in the Manawatu Music scene, and about their songwriting processes.

Featuring: Wednesday 3rd May at 6pm: Gabby Nisbet | Friday 5th May at 12pm: Nga Kete Aronui

Hugh Dingwall, MPR's very own music guru hosts interviews with the legends and stalwarts of the Manawatu Music environment. Building a picture of the past decades of the Swampton sound and the eras and heydays of it's evolution. Broadcast weekly in the Showcase slot at 8pm Wednesday Nights on 999am!

MPR needs the creativity of the Manawatu Music scene.

We're looking for music stings and jingles between 5 and 40 seconds long that include vocals that mention "MPR", "Manawatu People's Radio", or "Te reo irirangi o nga tangata o Manawatu." Rough/demo versions of the material are fine. We can arrange to record you for the final broadcast versions.

In return, any material we wish to use will result in an offer to record a demo / live gig of you and /or your band, including any PA or equipment that you might need, valued at approx. $1500.
